The MSL is a classroom on wheels that delivers hands-on, engaging lessons focused on science, technology, engineering, art, and math (STEAM) education and career exploration for schools and community groups in the region, as well as badge-earning activities for Girl Scouts. GM's $425k grant supports the operation of the Mobile STEAM Lab and provides no-cost access for students at various Mobile STEAM Lab events.
"This gift and our partnership with General Motors are key to helping prepare not only Girl Scouts, but youth in southeast Michigan for stronger futures in STEAM," said GSSEM's CEO, Monica Woodson. "When young people have opportunities for increased exposure and access to STEAM-related concepts, they gain tools that in the long run contribute to a well-prepared workforce, stronger economies, and new discoveries that benefit communities overall."
GM is a premier sponsor of the MSL, and GM's additional investment underscores the wide-ranging influence MSL programming has on encouraging students and Girl Scouts to pursue STEAM fields of study.
"General Motors is deepening our support for Girl Scouts of Southeastern Michigan by expanding access to STEAM education across the region," said David Massaron, GM Vice President, Corporate Citizenship.
"Inspiring the next generation of innovators starts with creating opportunities for young people to explore. The Mobile STEAM Lab brings experiential learning directly to students and communities, sparking curiosity and helping build a stronger future workforce in Michigan."
