Farewell to Former GSSEM CEO Denise Dalrymple 💚
Denise served as the first CEO of the newly merged Council from 2009 until her retirement in 2020. A visionary and transformative leader, she guided GSSEM through significant periods of growth and change, helping to establish a strong council-wide community structure, volunteer engagement and program strategies, and a foundation of financial stability. Among her many accomplishments, Denise was especially proud of leading the relocation of GSSEM’s Detroit headquarters from the Fisher Building to a modern, 17,000-square-foot facility in Brewery Park. This move enhanced operational efficiency, reduced costs, and created a more welcoming and functional space for members, volunteers, and staff.
Throughout her tenure, Denise cultivated strong relationships with the Board of Directors, volunteers, staff, and community partners. She was deeply committed to the Girl Scout Leadership Experience, ensuring that girls remained at the center of every decision. Her candid yet compassionate leadership inspired those around her to think boldly, act purposefully, and strive for meaningful impact.
Denise passed away on June 19, 2026, surrounded by her loving family. GSSEM extends its heartfelt condolences to her family and loved ones and expresses sincere appreciation for her years of dedicated service and lasting contributions to the organization. Her legacy will continue to inspire generations of Girl Scouts and volunteers for years to come.
