Join us with The Stories of Us for a powerful civic storytelling
experience with the Detroit Public Library! The Stories of Us is a
national public art and storytelling initiative sharing a broad story
of the United States. On July 4th, the Declaration of Independence
celebrates its 250th anniversary, a huge milestone that reminds us of
America's core promise: that everyone is equal and that we're all in
this together!
This special event, co-hosted by The
Stories of Us and Girl Scouts, is a chance for you to actually shape
the nation's story. Join us for a guided public art tour, a discussion
with an artist, and a lively session to imagine, explore, and share
what it means to have a civic identity in Detroit. Your voice
matters!
As the United States approaches its 250th
anniversary, this inspiring event invites Girl Scouts, alumni, and
volunteers to explore themes of what it means to be a Girl Scout
through public art and storytelling. Participants will engage with The
Stories of Us Talking Drum exhibition, featuring 25 large-scale
sculptures by artists from Detroit and across the country, and take
part in a day of meaningful conversation, creative expression, and
hands-on activities centered on civic identity.
The
experience will include a welcome and introduction, a guided sculpture
tour, an artist talk and workshop, journaling and storytelling
activities, and opportunities for participants to reflect on their own
role in shaping the future of their communities. This event aims to
create a one-of-a-kind, intergenerational art experience for Girl
Scouts, Girl Scout Leaders, GS Mentors, GS Staff, and
Volunteers.
