Calling all Girl Scouts! Come on out and join your OE Team and USFWS to learn all about ice fishing! Participants will get the chance to try some "hard water" fishing, fillet a fish (if interested) and, catch dependent, cook their catch on the ice!

Participants will start with a safety demonstration and be fitted with ice picks that MUST be worn during the entire event. We will cover how to "spud" a patch of ice to test for safety, what to do if you were to fall in and how to climb out.

We will then go over the basics of ice fishing and equipment needed. Each child will have their own complete gear set up to use during the event (pole, sit upon bucket, tackle, and bait) - as well as a complete gear set-up to take home (pole, reel, tackle, and ice scoop).

If any fish are caught of legal size and limit, and depending on interest from participants, we will teach how to properly fillet a fish and then fire up our trusty camp stove and pan fry them while out on the ice!

We will have two large ice shanties that will be set up with heaters running as a warming station. There will also be indoor, heated access to "flushable" restrooms and an indoor warming station a short walk away on shore. Participants are encouraged to bring snacks and drinks.
