This unprecedented event will honor our Gold Award Girl Scouts, Silver Award Girl Scouts, Bronze Award Girl Scouts, special award recipients, and graduating seniors.

Q. What are the date, time, and location of the GSSEM 2020 Honor Awards Ceremony?
A. GSSEM's 2020 Honor Awards Ceremony will be held Saturday, July 18, 2020 at the Canterbury Village Drive-In. Check-in will begin at 2:00 pm, and the ceremony will be 3:00 pm - 5:00 pm. The Canterbury Village Drive-In is located at 2359 Joslyn Ct, Orion Twp, MI 48360.
Q. Why did the date and location change?
A. GSSEM learned late last week that the venue for the August date was cancelling events. GSSEM searched for a different August date, but no venues were available. The Canterbury Village Drive-In is able to allow us to comply with social distancing and safety requirements to host an event of this size, while providing a unique experience for girls and families.
Q. Will we have to wear masks? Will you enforce social distancing?
A. All attendees will be required to wear face coverings upon entering the drive-in. All attendees—while outside their vehicles—must wear face coverings. Vehicles will be directed to designated, socially distanced parking spaces (14ft x 20ft). All groups must maintain a 6-foot distance from other groups. Sitting outside your vehicle within the vehicle space provided is permitted.
Girls will need to wear face coverings while in line to receive their awards.
Q. What's the cost for this event?
A. $5.00 per person. Awardees and children 4 and under are complimentary. A box lunch will be provided to all attendees upon conclusion of the event.
Q. Is registration required for this event?
A. Yes, registration is required for all attendees. One car per honoree (Gold Award Girl Scout, Silver Award Girl Scout, Bronze Award Girl Scout, special award recipient, and graduating senior) is permitted. The maximum vehicle capacity at the drive in is 160 cars. Please don't bring any RVs, large passenger vans, buses, or any other very large vehicles.
Q. What's the registration deadline?
A. The registration deadline is Monday, July 13 at 11:59 pm (or sooner if the event reaches capacity). All registrations are final, and no refunds will be given. This event runs rain or shine.
Q. How will this all work?
A. Only one vehicle per honoree household will be permitted at the drive-in. Upon arrival, check-in will be completed at the vehicle, where lunch tickets, honoree nametag and letters of commendation, program, commemorative booklet, and other materials will be distributed. Vehicles will be directed to designated, socially distanced parking spaces (14ft x 20ft). Spaces cannot be held for other vehicles. Once at designated parking space, let the parking attendant know if you prefer to pull forward or back into your parking space. Vehicle hatches/trunks can be opened for seating/shade during the presentation.
During the program, the honorees will be called up in groups by award (Bronze, Silver, Gold, etc.) The girls will need to wear their face covering, and will stand 6ft apart while in line to go onstage to receive their awards. Awards will be presented by GSSEM's new CEO Monica Woodson and board chair Telva McGruder. You'll be able to view your honoree on the big screen as she crosses the stage.
After girls receive their awards, they'll be directed to a designated area for a professional picture to be taken by a GSSEM hired photographer. The photographer will wear a face covering while the girls can remove their face covering for the photography only. Girls will need to return to their family vehicle after their photo is taken.
Q. How will I hear the awards presentation?
A. All program audio will be broadcast live on 98.5 FM radio.
Q. Do all attendees have to stay in their cars during the event?
A. Groups are permitted to sit outside their cars but must remain in their designated vehicle space (14ft x 20ft). Vehicle hatches/trunks can be opened for seating/shade during the presentation.
Q. Will other activities be available during the event?
A. Each car will be provided an activity packet to work on while waiting for their honoree group to be called to the stage. Attendees can also take the activity packet home. Please bring along pencils/pens. Also, attendees may decide to visit the Made in Michigan Festival being held at Canterbury Village following the awards presentation.
Q. How can families participate in celebrating their award recipient?
A. We suggest decorating vehicles with signs, window, paint, etc. There may even be a prize for the best-decorated vehicle!
Q. Can we bring our own food/drinks?
A. Attendees will be permitted to bring snacks and beverages. Alcoholic beverages are prohibited.
Q. Is photography permitted?
A. To maintain social distancing, families won't be permitted to gather at the stage to take photos of their girl receiving her award. GSSEM will have designated photographers to capture the event and take individual photos of girls after they've collected their awards. Photos will be available for download after the event.
Q. Will public restrooms be available?
A. Public restrooms are available at the drive-in. All visitors must wear face coverings while using the public restrooms.
