GSSEM volunteers share adventures at Our Cabaña in Mexico!

Cabanaheader

In celebration of World Thinking Day, we’ll spend the next few days highlighting adventures from Our Cabaña World Center in Mexico! Four GSSEM volunteers traveled to Our Cabaña to share friendship, experience culture and help make a difference, just in time for World Thinking Day!

Cheryl Hill, Mary Elias, Virginia Reglish and Suzanne Bante are GSSEM volunteers who are part of a group of 19 women from across the country enjoying a Girl Scout trip of a lifetime! They traveled to Our Cabana, one of five World Association of Girl Guides and Girl Scouts (WAGGGS) World Centers, located in Cuernavaca, Mexico. There they celebrated IMPACT, International Festival and World Thinking Day events.

Celebrated since 1926, World Thinking Day is a day of international friendship. It is an opportunity to speak out on issues that affect young women and fundraise for 10 million Girl Guides and Girl Scouts in 150 countries. For the past two years, World Thinking Day celebrations have focused on the strategic theme: Connect – Grow – Impact.

Our GSSEM volunteers' packed adventure included eight nights in Neuestra Cabaña Programme, day trips to Taxco, Downtown Cuernavaca and Tepoztlán Service Project. The objective during the trip was to learn more about WAGGGS, Mexican culture, traditions, history, and food, and take part in World Thinking Day celebrations. Their week of activities started out with an International Festival complete with an opening ceremony, activities, and even a campfire! Each group that traveled to Mexico gave a brief presentation about its respective country and community.

Stay tuned for highlights of the group’s travels tomorrow: Feb. 22, 2018, marks this year’s observance of World Thinking Day!
