Ford Motor Company Fund recently contributed $15,000 in sponsorship of Girl Scouts of Southeastern Michigan’s (GSSEM) FIRST (For Inspiration & Recognition of Science & Technology) Robotics teams. GSSEM will provide more than 428 girls (grades K-12) with hands-on STEM experience through participation in FIRST Robotics. This project will support Junior FIRST LEGO League teams (grades K-3), FIRST LEGO League teams (grades 4-5), and FIRST Tech Challenge teams (grades 6-12).
GSSEM partnered with FIRST of Michigan, an organization dedicated to advancing the fields of STEM through students in Michigan. Focused on building an interest in science and engineering in children, FIRST Robotics hands-on program series is designed to capture the curiosity of children and direct that curiosity toward discovering the possibilities of improving the world around them.
The sponsorship from Ford Motor Company Fund will go toward the continued education of girls in the STEM field by way of the FIRST Robotics teams. “We are profoundly grateful to Ford Motor Company Fund for their generous support of GSSEM’s involvement with FIRST Robotics”, said Marc Berke, Chief Development Officer at GSSEM. “FIRST Robotics gives our girls a hands-on experience in building their own robots in a girl-led, collaborative team atmosphere and allows them to put their inventions into action. We appreciate Ford Motor Company Fund’s dedication to getting more girls involved in STEM.”
