150 Girl Scouts Earn Their Product Designer Badge with FIRST Robotics

This past November, 150 Girl Scouts attended a special workshop hosted by Consumers Energy, FIRST of Michigan, and The Robot Garage.

FIRST is a non-profit dedicated to getting students all over the world excited about STEM (science, technology, engineering, and math) through designing and building robots for competition.

​We are excited to partner with the Ford Motor Company Fund as one of eight program and resource collaborators in the new Ford Resource and Engagement Center. The center, located in southwest Detroit at Mexica​ntown Mercado, will provide an array of programs and services ranging from job training and language classes to dance lessons and a Gleaners food bank hub.

Local entrepreneur to speak at Camp Moxie

We are excited to welcome Veronika Scott to this year's line-up of presenters at Camp Moxie. Featured as one of Crain Magazine's "Twenty in their 20's",  Veronika started the Detroit Empowerment Plan, a small non profit which hires women out of shelters to make coats. What's more unique? Veronika's coat doubles as as a sleeping bag for the homeless. 

GSSEM to debut Cookie Van at Motown Winter Blast

GSSEM will debut its Cookie Van at Detroit’s Motown Winter Blast on February 8, 2013, which is also National Girl Scout Cookie Day. GSUSA declared February 8, 2013 National Girl Scout Cookie Day. Its purpose is not just to promote the cookies, but increase public awareness of how buying Girl Scout cookies supports girls developing leadership skills. During Winter Blast, festival attendees will have chances to win cookies for one year and other fun prizes.

The End of the Waiting List!

We’ve all been there. In a crowd, wearing a Girl Scout shirt or with some Girl Scouts in their vests, a woman comments, “I wanted to be a Girl Scout, but there wasn’t a troop for me.” Translation: I got all excited but never heard back from anyone, so I lost interest. Ouch.
