Two iconic organizations are joining together to help save lives. Girl Scouts of Southeastern Michigan (GSSEM) and the American Red Cross are hosting Give Blood. Get a Cookie! blood drives in communities across southeastern Michigan. A kickoff  “Give Blood. Get a Cookie!” blood drive is scheduled for Feb. 8, 2014, at the University of Phoenix Downtown Detroit Campus from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.

“We are excited to partner with the American Red Cross in their efforts to increase life-saving blood donations,” said Denise Dalrymple, CEO of Girl Scouts of Southeastern Michigan (GSSEM). “Since our founding, Girl Scouts has been focused on supporting our communities, and we think this partnership is a great way to do that. We are proud that blood donors all over southeastern Michigan will be enjoying delicious Girl Scout cookies after they give blood.”

“The Red Cross and Girl Scouts are two American traditions. So are Girl Scout cookies and saving lives,” said Bridget Tuohey, Communications Manager for the Southeastern Michigan Blood Services Region of the American Red Cross. “We hope that the donors enjoy this special treat from the Girl Scouts as we work together to ensure an adequate blood supply in the communities we serve.”

More than 2,000 boxes of Girl Scouts cookies will be served to donors at the special blood drives during GSSEM’s six week cookie sale. GSSEM will also host blood drives at its five offices in Detroit, Clinton Township, Flint, Port Huron and White Lake. Girl Scout cookies will be served following donations at more than 300 drives during the Give Blood. Get a Cookie! campaign.
