Congratulations to the newest recipients of the coveted Girl Scout Gold Award. On Sunday, May 5, 2013, nine Girl Scouts from the Girl Scouts of Southeastern Michigan council joined the ranks of many honored young women by receiving their awards during an elegant luncheon at the San Marino Club in Troy, MI.
The event included displays from numerous Girl Scout Gold Award projects, a video message from The Honorable Debbie Stabenow, Senator (D-MI), and a keynote address by Miranda Niemiec, one of 10 current National Young Women of Distinction recognized by Girl Scouts of the USA. During her address, Miranda reflected back on her own Girl Scout journey and urged her fellow awardees to continue their great work and stay involved in scouting. "We need you more than ever! You are the future change makers and history markers. You have the power to a difference and make the world a better place," said Miranda.
The ceremony also honored Silver Award recipients, graduating seniors, and presented the Tammy Murray and Jennifer Barnum Spirit Awards, GSUSA Life Saving and GSSEM Young Woman of Distinction awards.
More than 200 girls attended the event along with family and friends. To see a few photos from the event, visit our Facebook page at facebook/gssem
