A pet can be a kid’s best friend! And kids should know how to properly care for their furry friends. For her Gold Award project Kayla partnered with the Livingston County Humane Society to create their first pet day camp. Kayla enlisted the help of local volunteers at her camp. She invited a local vet, animal trainer and animal nutritionist to speak at the camp. Campers were taught how to positively communicate and motivate their pets, how to master loose leash walking, and fun tricks to amaze and friends. Kayla’s camp was such a hit that the Humane Society will offer the program next year. “It felt good to be a part of a community ...that is doing their best to help animals everywhere,” says Kayla.
Kayla recieved her Gold Award on Sunday, May 5, 2013 at the GSSEM honor awards ceremony. Kayla is an 11th grade student and a member of Troop 44038.
