GSSEM recently raised more than $30,000.00 at the 17th Annual FORE! the Girls Golf Classic at Elks Club #222 in Grand Blanc on Aug. 21. Golfers had a perfect vantage point for the 2017 solar eclipse during the event: The 68 golfers could be seen around the course, wearing solar eclipse lenses on the greens.
The event also welcomed 90 guests at the dinner which featured a silent auction—the top raffle prize brought in $505.00. More than $1,500 was raised during the event in support of GSSEM’s Girl Engagement Initiative (GEI).
"We were so fortunate to have had a great turn out this year,” said Marc Berke, GSSEM Chief Development Officer. “The money raised will help further our efforts throughout Southeastern Michigan. Our golfers had a great day out on the course with a bonus of seeing the solar eclipse first-hand!"
GEI has recruited almost 3,000 girls to join Girl Scouts since its formation in 2015. The GEI program is for girls in K-8 grades to get a full Girl Scouting experience during regular school hours and receive the resources needed to participate in awesome adventures like camping. With GEI, Girl Scouts are in communities that have few traditional troops and where there may be significant barriers to joining a troop.
This year was the first year that GSSEM invited representatives from Flint’s non-profit community to attend the FORE! the Girls. The guests got a chance to hear all about the positive impact GEI has made. Organizations included Community Foundation of Greater Flint, Crim Fitness Foundation, Shelter of Flint and YWCA of Greater Flint.
The Title Sponsor for 2017 FORE! the Girls was McLaren Health Care. Dinner Sponsor was Collaborative Data, Inc. and Lunch Sponsor was Compass Commercial. The Golf Cart Sponsor was TCF Bank.
Special thanks to the 2017 GSSEM Golf Committee: Gerald McCarty II, Julianne Princinsky, Clametta Butler and Kathy Smith.
SAVE THE DATE: Next year’s FORE! the Girls will be Aug. 20, 2018!
