Our local council, Girl Scouts of Southeastern Michigan (GSSEM), offers flexible ways for girls and adults to participate in the leadership experience. In a fun and stimulating environment, with the guidance and mentorship of caring adults, girls lead activities, learn by doing, and cooperate with others to make a difference in their world.

What is a "Community Troop"?
For the most flexibility, Community Troops offer the opportunity for girls and adults to customize their experience and become involved in Girl Scouting right away!
Based upon her time and interests, girls can participate in a multi-session leadership series (which can be short or long-term, typically held over multiple weeks), council or community-sponsored skill-building events (one-time, stand-alone programs that can be a few hours, all day, or overnight), outdoor camp programs, or travel adventures.
Upon joining, girls and adults are automatically included in the Community Troop for their geographical area. As a member of the Community Troop, girls can select the programs which match their interests, meet others with similar interests, have lots of fun, and enjoy a high quality Girl Scout leadership experience!
For adults, there are exciting opportunities to volunteer to support community programs by sharing your passions and talents with girls without an ongoing time commitment. Council staff and experienced volunteers can provide easy to use tools and resources so that you can have fun being a mentor to girls by supporting a community-based multi-session series or a stand-alone event.
What is a "District Troop"?
Some girls and adults prefer to participate in a traditional District Troop and attend regularly scheduled meetings throughout the year in a specific location such as a school, faith-based organization, or community center. Troop Leaders, Co-Leaders, and other adult volunteers provide a safe and caring environment for girls to realize their full potential.
After joining, girls can be transferred to an existing troop as long as there are enough adult volunteers for the number of girl members. By committing to take an active role in the Girl Scout program, parents/adults also gain a fulfilling experience. Troop’s today function at their own pace. Meeting location and frequency is determined by the girls and volunteers.
Financial Aid Available:
Girl Scouts of Southeastern Michigan grants financial assistance based on the need and availability of the member and/or their family. We offer financial aid for families whose personal circumstances may be an obstacle to overcome so that their daughter can fully engage in Girl Scout events, activities or opportunities. Assistance will be granted based on need and availability of funds.
