Individual Giving Opportunities

GSSEM - Individual Giving

Thank you for considering a charitable donation to Girl Scouts of Southeastern Michigan.

Your donation, large or small, is important to us. Girls are worthy of our investment and your contribution to GSSEM makes a powerful statement to the community.

There are several ways individuals can help support Girl Scouting:

Annual Donation

Your annual donation is an unrestricted financial contribution which allows Girl Scouts of Southeastern Michigan to designate your financial gift to the areas in most need of financial support.

Recurring Gift

Your monthly gift will benefit girls becoming leaders of courage, confidence, and character who make the world a better place. With your consistent support we are able to help girls from low to moderate income families and raise the funding needed to subsidize each girl we serve for a year of Girl Scouting – thank you for your continued support.

Matching Gifts

Each dollar you contribute to GSSEM may be worth more. Many companies match charitable gifts given by their employees, and in some cases, retirees, directors or employee spouses. At no additional cost to you, your gift can grow and multiply.

In most cases, unless otherwise indicated, you simply need to obtain the matching gifts form, fill out the pertinent information and send it to us. We’ll take care of the rest. To find out if your company matches gifts to Girl Scouts of Southeastern Michigan, simply Follow THIS LINK and enter the name of your company in the space provided.

If your company’s information did not appear, your employer may still have a matching gifts program. Please contact your employer, usually the Human Resources Department, to find out if your gift can be matched.

PLEASE NOTE: If you make your gift online, please print out your confirmation notice and send it in along with your matching gifts form.

Donation in Tribute

A gift in honor or memory of someone is a thoughtful way to pay tribute to individuals who touch our lives. “Tribute Gifts” provide unrestricted resources for leadership experiences for girls or you may direct your gift to support a focus area. Tribute gifts can be made to celebrate a special occasion, say thank you, express concern for someone close to you or are a thoughtful way to remember those who have passed away. We send a Tribute Gift card to persons you designate notifying them of your gift.

Planned Giving

Would you like to remember Girl Scouts of Southeastern Michigan in your estate plans? There are many advantages to planning vehicles such as gift annuities, bequests, Charitable Remainder Trusts, and gifts of real estate/life insurance - a stream of income, deferred taxes, helping your favorite charity, etc. Please contact our fund development officer and/or check with your tax consultant/lawyer at this important time. For basic information on planned gifts, call or visit the Community Foundation for Southeastern Michigan at 313-961-6675 or http://www.cfsem.org.

Designations

If you prefer to designate your donation to one of Girl Scouts of Southeastern Michigan's focus areas, click on of the following links: Family Partnership, Summer Dreams, Be a Friend First (BFF) or STEM.

Family Partnership:

Family Partnership is devoted to helping provide financial assistance to girls who cannot afford to continue in her Girl Scout journey. Every dollar donated to the "Family Partnership Campaign" will be used to sponsor the costs for an girl who is less fortunate and needs help.In Southeastern Michigan, more and more families are in need of financial assistance due to the current economic conditions we face. It would be tragedy if a girl stopped participating in her year-long scouting involvement due to her inability to pay the necessary costs and troop activity fees as it might very well be the only positive extracurricular activity she has in her life.

Each year, GSSEM receives requests from girls to help them pay their costs to continue participating. Annually, requests for assistance can equal up to $250,000. Unfortunately, when the funds earmarked for this problem are depleted, further assistance will not be available.
This campaign gives every Girl Scout family the chance to be a champion to another girl who is less fortunate.

For more details about the "Family Partnership Campaign" please download our brochure.

Outdoor Education:

Camp is a highlight for so many girls that we serve and in this tough economy many families cannot afford to send them. Girls look forward to making new friends and creating memories for a lifetime. At GSSEM, girls can look forward to the high and low rope courses, swimming, horseback riding, challenge course and so much more. Your Summer Dreams gift will help send a girl to camp – All Summer Dreams donations will go toward the Outdoor Education/Camp Financial Aid Fund.

Please don’t miss your opportunity to invest in helping a deserving girl go to camp. Just follow the donate link below and please designate your gift is for Summer Dreams.

Be a Friend First (BFF):

BFF is an anti-bullying program which teaches middle school age girls how to stand up for themselves and others, whether by defusing a situation with the right words or knowing when to get help from an adult, make a decision to avoid forming cliques, gossiping or teasing others, recognize what a healthy friendship looks like and resolve conflicts peacefully.

Girl Scouts of the USA’s Girl Scout Research Institute has found that:

  • 38 percent of girls worry about their emotional safety when spending time with peers.
  • 6 out of 10 teens witness bullying at least once a day.
  • 85 percent of the time, when a girl is bullied no one intervenes.
  • 57 percent of the time when peers intervene, the bullying stops within 10 seconds.

Please support this opportunity for girls to participate in this valuable learning series.

S.T.E.M. Initiatives:

A recent report conducted by Girl Scouts of USA found that girls are interested in STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, & Math) and aspire to STEM careers, but need further exposure and education about what STEM careers can offer, and how STEM can help girls make a difference in the world. In collaboration with such institutions as the Cranbrook Science Center, the Sloan Museum, and newly reconstituted Michigan Science Museum and FIRST Robotics, GSSEM will provide meaningful STEM education especially tailored for Girl Scouts.

Please support this opportunity for girls to participate in this valuable learning series.
