TRIP AND CAMP READINESS  (Girls Sleep in/Girls Cook In)

 WHO SHOULD TAKE THIS COURSE: Any volunteer interested in helping the girls expand their horizons beyond the troop meeting place. The troop volunteer who will assist the troop with camping or with overnight trips away from the regular meeting place is welcome to attend this course. This course is the pre-requisite for Outdoor I, Girls Sleep In/Cook Out.

COURSE CONTENT: Increase your skills to prepare the girls for trips. Topics include: safety, including girl/adult ratios and medication dispensing, packing and dressing for the weather, meal planning, food safety, outdoor education activities, as well as going green and using resources wisely.
 
PREREQUISITE: There is no prerequisite for this class.

OUTDOOR 1 - GIRLS SLEEP IN/COOK OUT

WHO SHOULD TAKE THIS COURSE: The troop volunteer who will assist the troop with camping where the girls will experience campfires and/or outdoor cooking.

REGISTRATION: this is a face-to-face class with skill demonstrations.  Visit the Classes for Volunteers Section for information about course content, course availability and to register.
 


OUTDOOR 2 - GIRLS SLEEP OUT in ESTABLISHED UNITS

WHO SHOULD TAKE THIS COURSE: The troop volunteer who will assist the troop with camping where the girls will experience sleeping in platform cabins, platform tents, Adirondacks, or A-frames.

 COURSE CONTENT: 

  •  Safety and night-time readiness
  • Personal hygiene using pumps or wells
  • Facility care
  • Updated packing list for personal and troop equipment
  •  Food storage and safety
 PREREQUISITES:  
Trip & Camp Readiness for Girls  &  Outdoor I - Girls Sleep In/Cook Out (or their equivalents) must be completed prior to completing this course.

OUTDOOR 3 - GIRLS SLEEP OUT IN TENTS

WHO SHOULD TAKE THIS COURSE: The troop volunteer who will assist the troop with camping where the girls will experience pitching their own tents.

 COURSE CONTENT: 
 

  • Tents including site set-up, care, and packing
  •  Knots and lashing
  •  Emergency procedures
  •  Personal hygiene
  •  Advanced food storage and safety – “packing it out”

REGISTRATION: this is a face-to-face class with skill demonstrations.  Visit the Classes for Volunteers Section for information about course content, course availability, and to register.

  PREREQUISITES:  

Trip & Camp Readiness for Girls  &  Outdoor I - Girls Sleep In/Cook Out & Outdoor 2 - Girls Sleep Out in Established Units  (or their equivalents) must be completed prior to completing this course.
