We’ve all been there. In a crowd, wearing a Girl Scout shirt or with some Girl Scouts in their vests, a woman comments, “I wanted to be a Girl Scout, but there wasn’t a troop for me.” Translation: I got all excited but never heard back from anyone, so I lost interest. Ouch.

Leadership Plain & Simple

Today, I brought my seventeen year old daughter, Brittany, to work with me. She’s an active Girl Scout. She is also aware that our volunteer structure is changing, but we haven’t spoken in great detail about the changes. So, I handed her a few pictures of our new structure – the oval with the Districts and the Communities. I asked her to give me her thoughts. I wanted to get a fresh perspective. So, she takes a look and says, “Wow, whoever designed this did a good job.” And…” Community includes troops and all of the other stuff?” She got it!

The spirit of service continues to thrive in the days and weeks after the devastating earthquake in Japan. Girl Scouts have been hard at work providing relief to victims of recent natural disasters.

Spring is a time to celebrate the best of Girl Scouting! We began with our 2011 Volunteer National Awards Luncheon, followed by the Gold and Silver Awards Banquet, and will conclude with three Top Seller Cookie Celebrations.

February 22nd is World Thinking Day.  Celebrating this day reminds us that as Girl Scouts, we are part of a global community.  This year’s theme for Thinking Day is “Empowering girls will change our world.”  As a Board, we take this mission of girl empowerment very seriously.
