Board Chair Corner – Sept. 2013

Welcome to the start of a new program year.  Hope you all had a wonderful summer!

The board met on September 11th at the Detroit Service Center with a packed agenda.  With the exception of a strategic learning retreat in August, and a special virtual meeting in June to approve the sale of the Flint Service Center building, our last regular meeting was in May. So we had a great deal of business to conduct.

Welcome to the NEW gssem.org!

Your council team has been working hard over the last six months, all the while testing and gathering feedback of our members, volunteers and their families, to provide you with this new online experience.

Some of the new features:

NEW GSUSA REGISTRATION SYSTEM

Starting August 9, 2013, GSUSA will be updating their online membership and program registration system (currently called, "E-biz"). In addition to parents using this system to renew membership or to sign up for programs for themselves and their daughter(s), the "Troop Management" part of this system has been used by Troop Leaders to purchase memberships/programs and manage communications with their members.

GSSEM Council shops returned to normal business hours starting today Monday, August 5, 2013. All shops will operate normal business hours with the exception of the Flint Service Center/Council Shop.

Due to the pending sale of the Flint Service Center, the building is closed. GSSEM is aggressively seeking a convenient location in Genesee County for a new Flint Service Center/Council Shop. In the meantime, Flint area customers are encouraged to visit the White Lake Service Center/Council Shop. You can also shop online at www.gssem.org/shop.

GSSEM is sad to hear about the passing of Juliette Gordon Low's niece, Margaret Gordon "Peggy" Seiler. Below is a statement from GSUSA National CEO, Anna Maria Chávez.

I am writing with sad news. Yesterday, I learned of the passing of Margaret Gordon "Peggy" Seiler, the niece of our founder, Juliette Gordon Low, who died on Saturday morning, July 7th, at her home in Virginia. She was 90 years old.

Girl Scouts is one of the Nation’s most beloved and recognized organizations. The courage, confidence and character millions of girls develop by participating in Girl Scouts has helped to inspire many of America’s most successful elected officials, business owners, astronauts, journalists, and the list goes on.
