Happy Founder's Day

On Halloween, a day that many associate with ghosts and spirits of the past, Girl Scouts the world over celebrate the life of their founder, Juliette Gordon Low, who was born October 31, 1860, in Savannah, Georgia. An innovator, Low's vision prepared girls for future roles as professional women-in the arts, sciences and business-and for active citizenship outside the home.

GSSEM launches STEM Initiative

Over the past 50 years, women in the United States have made great strides in education and entry into the work force in this country. However, despite these advances, women continue to be underrepresented in the fields of science, technology, engineering, and math (STEM). Studies show that girls lose interest in math and science during middle school, and STEM interest for girls is low, compared to boys. Most research on this topic has focused on representation of girls and women in these fields, primarily on the obstacles preventing more girls and women from entering them.

Board Chair Corner – Sept. 2013

Welcome to the start of a new program year.  Hope you all had a wonderful summer!

The board met on September 11th at the Detroit Service Center with a packed agenda.  With the exception of a strategic learning retreat in August, and a special virtual meeting in June to approve the sale of the Flint Service Center building, our last regular meeting was in May. So we had a great deal of business to conduct.

Welcome to the NEW gssem.org!
